Welcome to Music on Brawley

My name is Joey Rincon, the founder of our local music lessons studio based in Mooresville, NC.

About Lessons

Truly Individualized.

When a student first walks in with an interest in music, something called out to them. That desire to make that sound happen on the guitar. To hold the bow and create a brilliant and powerful sound out of the cello. Or maybe your son saw his favorite band perform on youtube and decided he wants to be a rock star!

Whatever brought the student to his or her first lesson, our job as intructors is to "fan the flame", so to speak. Nurture their interest in music, and give them practical and effective approaches to get them where they want to be.

Often times, teachers spend weeks working on music theory, scales and other fundamentals with brand new students. Fundamentals are crucial, and need to be discussed, but the teacher should also notice what makes their student excited.

While the most common ages are usually 8 and onwards, even younger students have a place at Music on Brawley! To be fair, a child as young as 4 likely won't have the tactile strength for certain things (like fretting the guitar!) but they just as well can hit the drums, press piano keys, or maybe experiment with a ukulele!

Since the attention span of a 4 year-old is not the same as a 10 year-old, we recommend trying a 15 - minute lesson slot. Enough time to have some fun, learn some fundamentals (like counting!), and feel like they got something done!

Older students often feel like its too late for them to learn an instrument. They should have started when they were kids. But the truth is, finding a hobby in life that brings fulfillment is one of the most gratifying experiences an adult. No one is too old to have fun playing music!

Support for ADHD, Austism, and Neurodivergent Children and Adults.

We find it incredibly rewarding to have the opportunity to work with students of all backgrounds, and when working on music with someone who faces a challenge such as ADHD, Autism, or another type of condition, we offer music lessons at a pace and rhythm that works for them.

Like all other students, we are more interested in learning how to serve these students best. Having knowledge and wisdom as an instructor is important, but understanding how to interact with different types of students is almost more important. At the end of the day, private lessons are a one-on-one relationship, and the responsibility to foster a postive atmosphere for all students is something we do not take lightly!

I've been working toward getting a home for Music on Brawley for a while! A place for us to teach our students, build a dedicated music library, and even a space for jam sessions/rock band scenarios, which will be so fun. I can't wait!

Meet The Founder

I started my private lessons studio in November 2022, after having taught for several music schools since 2012. I've learned so much of what does and doesn't work in being an effective music instructor over the last decade-and-a-half of teaching music. I've worked with hundreds of students of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels and I've decided I like teaching so much that I wanted to build a school as an extension of my teaching philosphy. There are a few concepts that I think embody my teaching philosphy. One of them is inspiring the student, being observant enough to summon the very best from each indiviudal. To recognize the smallest glimmer of potential in a beginner student, and cultivate it, building their esteem brick-by-brick is no simple task. It requires a willingness from the teacher to go beyond handing out scales, music, and technique exercises and calling it a day. Its about being there, sometimes sitting with the student in their discomfort of a challenging concept, always being encouraging, always recognizing that we as teaches have the power to help the student either grow or shrink based on how we handle challenges. Music on Brawley is about making music lessons great. Exciting. I love when my students are excited after a lesson, not drained. Which is why I've hired some of the teachers we have now. When I speak with Melanie, Preston, and Emily, I notice that they share some of this philosphy with me. My hope is that Music on Brawley continues to grow and attract new students to learn music in a way thats truly fulfilling and exciting!
